About
A marble workshop in Tajganj, run by Arshan.
Four centuries after the Taj Mahal was finished, the lanes behind it are still full of people who cut stone for a living. We are one of those workshops.
The work
We make objects, not surfaces.
Most "marble" sold today is a thin layer on something else — a printed laminate, a composite slab, a veneer glued to board. It photographs well and it does not last. Everything we make is cut from a solid block, which is why a chess board has weight in the hand and a table leg reads as stone from every angle.
The range runs from a coaster to a dining table: chess sets, platters, side tables, bowls, candle holders, chopping boards, coasters, and commissions drawn to a customer's own measurement.
Stone comes from the blocks we can source and inspect — Calacatta Viola, Levanto, onyx, travertine, black and white marble, and the burgundy and beige stones that suit warmer rooms. What we can get changes; what we tell you about it does not.

“The stone decides half the piece. Our job is not to fight it — it is to cut so the vein lands where it should.”

Where we are
Tajganj, Agra.
Tajganj is the quarter that grew around the Taj Mahal, and inlay work — stone set into stone, polished flush — has been its trade ever since. Our coaster and chess board inlay comes straight out of that tradition; the tables and bowls are a contemporary use of the same skills.
Visitors are welcome, but call first — the workshop is working, and the lanes are easier with directions.
Bespoke
Commission something of your own.
A size that fits your room, a stone you have chosen, a piece made only once. Tell us what you have in mind.
